I finally joined the 'dim' side. Cichlids.
I've just started a cichlid tank yesterday. consist of a few rocks with coarse sand. using an internal power filter.
its only the 2nd day and i still placed a small 1.5" cichlid to cycle the tank. hope i didnt make any mistakes.
also, does having a high current flow affect the fish?

    Hi,
What sort of Cichlids are you planning? I wouldnt use Cichlids, or any other fish, for cycling, i would use a dead prawn. simply defrost it and let it rot in the tank.
Currently keeping many wild betta species and other anabantoids.

with this tank size, you are better off with a pair of dwarf cichlids.

you use rocks and coral sand.

you can either go for tangayikan or central american dwarfs.

i recommend a pair of convict cichlids. THey are cute and robust fish. THey breed easily and are excellent for you to learn more about classic cichlid behaviours. You can find classic traits of cichlids in them, in a small size, and at a low price. A great way to start.
they breed easily, thats a bonus. you can observe breeding.

Their robustness make them more forgiving to mistakes that you may make and it will be an encouraging experience. From there you can proceed to other more demanding breeds as you learn more.

there is plenty of information on internet or in books about these fish

But be prepared to devote your 2ft to just a pair of them. They are fierce little cichlids.
