Hi all, recently, I started to notice my two 2078 (was working fine for 6 months) making noises and try to auto-expel trapped air frequently, water flow is ok. As one of them is connected to an external co2 reactor, the air is trapped in the co2 reactor and within a few hours, the level of water dropped to only 15% of the reactor and I have keep over-turning it to remove the air I tried cleaning the filter and hoses and lily pipes but the problem still there. Need some advise.. Should I wait for the filter to expel the air by itself slowly or is something wrong with the pump? Thanks!

Are the 2 filters connected in series?
You reactor is the NA type reactor? If it is, you might want to check the hose inside the reactor, see if it has dropped too far in and is blocking the flow.
Debris in your filter might also be the cause of the slower flow.

No, they are connected separately. The reactor is NA type and hose should not drop as there is a cable tie on it that act as stopper to prevent it from dropping but thanks for pointing out, I may take out to check just in case.

Re: Trapped air in my eheim filter

If you shake the cannister (filter) is there any bubbles at the outlet pipe? If yes, then probably there's air lock in the cannister and you should remove it fast. If too much air lock and pump is still turning without sufficient water flow for cooling, coil may burn out. Air can get trapped in cannister due to a few reasons; filter media cloaked, rotor damaged or cannister seal leak, etc. Media cloaked, just need to wash or replace medias. Rotor fault, take the rotor out to check if the rotor body (metallic/magnetic part) is still firmly fixed to impeller (plastic part), if both parts are not firmly fixed to each other, repair or replace. Seal leak, check if assembly is fitted properly, cover, rubber gasket, etc. Sometimes vasaline the rubber gasket can help.
Just some personnal opinion hope can help.

One of the filters is back to normal after a day. The other one has good flow but occasionally, I see trapped air being pushed out from the lily pipe and it makes a slight noise. I checked all the parts and seem to be ok, applied vasaline as well to the case seal already yesterday. Will wait and see if it resolves by itself. Btw, I read that by raising the outlet (with water coming out) above the water can help to expel the air? Btw, the filter is heavy to shake effectively and I scare it might cause leaks in doing so

Upon another careful observation, I heard some slizzling sound at one of the outlet and shake it to remove the trapped air. It seems to fixed the problem and the filter is quiet now, flow not affected. Will observe and see, thanks for all the advises!

Finally got the cause and fixed it. Turned out that it's my fault that I did not attached the inlets properly using eheim installation set 1, thus causing tiny air bubbles to be sucked in

Re: Trapped air in my eheim filter

It happened to my Eheim ProII 2028 as well, where I had a few months where there were constant bubbles being burbled out by the filter. However, for some magical reason, the problem fixed itself last week, and I no longer have bubbling from my filter.
