How do i keep them alive after getting them fresh from my LFS!!! 1st day their alive and kicking, able to be eaten. Second day, Most are dead and they are giving out a really foul smell.

FYI, the LFS kept theirs in a tray with not so much water, and when they pack it for me, they filled a bag with water and dump about half of the volume of water of bloodworms in it. Went home and threw them in a long ice cream box, drain out some water till it just covers the worms.

    Why do they still die!!

    Hi eiontay,

What you don't see at the LFS is that they keep changing the water for that tray of bloodworms. Or they may use a drip system and put the tray at the sink area so that the tap drips in water from one end of the tray and out from the other end.

If you want your bloodworms to last longer, keep it like the LFS with just enough water to cover their bodies, but not totally. And remember to change water at least 2 to 3 times a day.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Sorry, i made a mistake. Those were tubi worms.

Benny, if i place them in a small box with a airstone, will it survive?

    Re: Live Bloodworms

It's better if you can avoid using tubifex worms...
As they contains alot of bacterial and other diseases unless you clean properly and doesn't mean 100% safe..
    There's still a risk there.

Yes, airstone will provide more oxygen for them.
It's better to change the water few times a day.

    Re: Live Bloodworms

I would like to share my experience of keeping tubifex worms alive for more than a week.

First after bringing them home, put in icecream container, wash a few times and fill up with water to half height, add a few drops of API stress coat.

Repeat the washing dripping of conditioner twice a day until you fish all the worms

This method works for me but not all the time, sometimes the worm are already unhealthy and then next day is a pool of blood, may want to get from reliable source though (lfs that works for you)
