I notice twice recently that after I have 50% water change, the whole tank becomes choky after 1-2 hours (it was clear just after the water change). It took about 4 to 5 hours for the chokiness to disappear.

What is the reason? Does that mean changing of water kills some of the nitrifying bacteria?

Interesting phenomenon. Usually this won't clear for days! I'd worry that it's a chemical reaction between tank water and new water, but I can't think of anything that might cause it. If your fishes and plants are alright and it clears within hours, then I wouldn't worry, though I'll keep wonderng.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

How long have you been running the filter?....if its more than a year to year and a half, did you change your filter media?....not the wool but your bio rocks?

Thanks for the right word, Loupgarou.

David, my tank is only 2 months old. I did not change the biorock. It's a puzzling phenomenon.
