Sorry, I have a noob question here: I thought shrimps need pH 7.5 - 8.0. How do people mix shrimps with small fishes like neon tetras and oto who prefer pH 7 or less? Any effect on the shrimp shell under low pH condition?

I have been keeping fishes for ages but have not touched on shrimps and snails. The accidental snails that got into my tanks from plants that I purchased usually died after a few weeks. So I have never have snail problem. I thought the snail death must have something to do with the low pH or not enough calcium carbonate in the water. Is that right?

    Re: Shrimps and snails

    Hi Chooz,

different shrimps like fishes requires different ph. Sakura, yellow, snowball etc will survive better in a slightly higher ph(7-7.5)
where else CRS requires a lower ph range (6-6..
for starters i would recommend you to try out Sakuras/Cherries as they have a high tolerance level and are pretty nice.
