Wow, impressive...the layout of the plants and colour of the dicuss is a beauty.
Thx for sharing.
Thank you! It is the planted tank that helps the colours of the discus.
I just feed the discus tetra bits and a few cubes of frozen blood worms once or twice a week as a treat.
Do you have a full tank shot?
Suckerfish no eat poo poo.
Full tank shots!
The first picture was the initial tankscape.
I re-worked it as i did not like the gap on the left side and also removed the moss lawn.
The second picture is the current tankscape.
Thanks for viewing everyone.
The discus are getting smarter!
After I installed an auto feeder, I think the discus have been conditioned to the feeding times.
About 5 mins before the auto feeder drops the food, the discus start to gather near the feeding spot.
I do about 1/3 water change every week for this 6 feet planted discus tank.
So far this is working out.
For those forumers with planted discus tank, how often and by how much do you change water?
nice .....can really enjoy the view during and after dinner.....
Had a dinner party 2 weeks ago and one of the guests thought
the tank was a marine tank!
He thought the discus fish was marine fish due to their Bright colours.
No wonder some discus books describe the discus as the king of freshwater fish due to their vibrant colours.
I am sure other fish breeds deserve the "king" title too!
Personally, I just sit back and enjoy the view.
While there more work involved compared to a bare tank, the planted tank brings out the colours better.
Can't fault me for loving discus colours!!!
I think the discus are also observing us during dinner too.
Don't know about the "king" title but I just like the discus colours!

One pair of Discus just spawned yesterday afternoon.
This is the first time they spawned.
They are an odd pair, a 5 inch blue diamond female and a male almost 5 inch red turquoise discus.
They spent the whole day looking after the eggs, fanning and protecting the eggs from the other curous discus.
Sadly, around 9.00pm last night, all the eggs were GONE!!!
Let's hope they spawned again.![]()

Hi benjidog
Really!!! I must thank you for your offer in advance!
Will the Discus attack shrimps and other fishes?
Shrimps equals food for discus. Other fishes should be ok.

If your discus is tank breed and not use to feeding on live food, and if you introduce the shrimps earlier than your discus, they normally will leave it alone. I have many Yamotos and Malayan shrimps in my 4ft discus tank (9 adult discus feeding on Tetrabits) and the shrimps are left alone :-)
4ft Planted Tank (approx. 500L incl sump)
Equipment:
4x2x2.5 12mm Tank with Sump. 4x55W 6,700K T5. Eheim 1262 Return. Hailea 300A Chiller. 5L CO2 with JBJ Solenoid Regulator. Lapis Sand with JBL Base Fert.
For the past one and half month there are 2 major feeding sessions, with interval feeding of about 45 mins apart, from 12 noon to 2pm and another few sessions from 7 to 9pm.
I did introduce some yamatos and a few Malayan shrimps as cleaning crew and they are still alive and doing well.
Just added some plants and will upload pictures soon.
