Do you mean Downoi (Pogostemon helferi)?
Do you mean Downoi (Pogostemon helferi)?
Hi, anyone can help?
what about the light?
Dawnoi requires enough light, good fertilizer and cool water.

My 1ft tank is at 26C, light is 2x8W T5 tubes.
Using GEX soil and fertilize with liquid fertilizer once a week.
This sufficient?
Try using fertilizer stick. Put somewhere next the stem. If you are in KL, I can give some when I go there next month.
Btw. is Dawnoi expensive there? It is around 70-80 THB/pot
Try growing the downoi floating in the water. I think its a combination of your light and CO2. The 1 feet tank is how big? size? gallon?

Downoi will not melt because they are emmersed type of plant. In farms they are grown in wet base and out of water.Growing or acclimatizing the downoi by floating it in the water is not the solution because you still need them to be rooted and to decorate your scape.

Hi, don't mind me hijacking the thread since I also do not have luck with downoi.
My specs:
Tank: 3.5ft (L)x 2ft(H)x 1.5ft
Temp: about 26-27C with chiller.
lights: 2x 39W T5
substrate: ADA Amazonia 2
Liquis ferts: Seachem potassium, phosphate and florish
CO2: yes, but not sure how much, no bubble counter.
Tried 2 times. Once planted into subtrate but didn't put much liquid ferts. 2nd time left it in the pot and dosed ferts more frequently. Both times they melted after a few days. Now only left 1 stem in the substrate with a few tiny leaves, neither growing nor dying.....
What's the problem here? In some posts, seems like the success was due to using lapis sand, but success with ADA soil is also not unheard of. Or lights not enough? Any ideas?
Thanks all.
hi kenny, you may have open a can of worm. You might not have enough CO2 and I am not sure about your plant mass. Also, is the downoi shaded?

Haha now I have worms to feed my fish!
I would say it's only moderately planted, mostly moss, and I've never seen the plants bubble before. That means something sure is lacking right?
Look into the CO2 and lights. how many gallons of water you have there?
colin | The Wilderness and Forest | FTS
214litres, abour 56.5 US gallons
78W / 56.5 = 1.38W/G.... too low?
Provide plenty of lights, Co2, cool water, and from what Justin (Ranmasatome) has tried before, he does not bury much of the plant in the soil, just a few roots. alternatively, have a small pot of lapis in your tank of ada soil, and when the plants grows out, it should be spreading by itself to other parts.
My success was with downoi in lapis sand with base fert. Very good growth, high tech (lots of lights, ferts, water around 25degrees)
kenny, too low. downoi gets alot of sun in the wild also because they grow along rocky river bank. For this reason, many of us have success in growing downoi in lapis. However, it does not mean that soil will not work out for you.
Mileage may varies!

Try with more light. I use the rule of thumb 1w/1L of water.
Also try using fertiliser stick rather than liquid type.
Thanks barmby, aquaobsession, panaipon and all! I'll up the lights and try some substrate ferts maybe, if not I'll get the lapis sand
By the way, I saw them selling downoi tied onto lava rocks. Those will grow well, since that is like their natural habitat provided there is enough light, yeah?
this is kind of ironic because I was planning to have a low light low maintenance tank! Haha
