What fish is this?

haha i have one now.

I had been trying to decide if it is a A.Labiatum or Citrinellum....i.e, a red devil or midas.


so far i had seen....it is closer to Red Devil.

But i will not be surprised at all if this is neither a pure midas nor red devil..as there is a good possibilty of this fish being crossed several times up the generations.
Midas and Red Devils are very closely related. They do interbreed in the wild under certain circumstances and this makes things even more complicated.

I will choose to believe mine is closer to a RD.

Looks like its the same fish. my is probably much younger. How old is yours? it looks much bigger.

This fish seem to be quite dull in color, my only have a bit of red at the fins. I was hoping its a pure breed, midas the best []

How old will this fish likely to reach maturity?

i dont know how old mine is but i had him for abt 3 months.

Not a very fast grower actually.

I hope that it is a midas too. Nuchal hump is quite obvious even at this small size.

But somehow the face/head structure suggests strongly of Labiatum

I thought red devil is red colour? By the way, what family does red devils belongs to? it looks like luohan

Red devils are not all red
In fact they exist in grey form very commonly too

they are now recognised to be in the genus Cichlasoma. Sub genus Amphilophus. (if you want to further classify, they belong to "group one" of the 2 phenotypes distinguished by their feeding patterns)

you can take the scientific name as either
"cichlasoma labiatum" or " amphilophus labiatum"....these are the 2 still widely used.

Luohans are hybrids obtained by crossing closely related members of this sub genus. (red devil, midas, trimac)
later on , many other cichlids had come into the soup [:]
