This is a mini tank in my work desk area.

by the way, can anyone make out what are these fishes? they are small and will not harm the shrimps.

    Re: Newbie small office tank

    Hi,

A few tips in keeping fish/shrimp in office as I used to do in a 15cm cube.

    1. Get a small back hanging filter. Usually below $10. This will ensure your water is at least fltered and maintained. Your pets will be happier and less hassle than changing your tank water every week. Its not good for the inhabitants.
    2. CRS (Your red/white shrimp) need cool water. 28 degrees and below if not it will perish in time. Water requirement also pretty high so point 1 is very important.
    3. Get a 9W or 11W PL light, around $13, it will benefit your mosses. Mosses do not need a lot of requirements. Give it light, good water and cool temperatue, it will grow nicely.
    4. Thermometer, small ones cost around $2, it will help you to see that there are no drastic temperature changes.
    5. Anti-chlorine, get a bottle ($5) as I am not sure wat water you are using in the office, assume its tap water. My previous office had Diamond filter so my fish did well, hahaha.

Lastly, all the best and do enjoy the hobby!
    - 3ft x 1ft x 1ft planted with assorted .
    - 30cm x 20cm x 20cm nano for Sakuras, low grade CRS/BDS .
    - 15cm cube Bumblebee goby biotope
    - 15cm cube in office (Sep 10) [Decommed]

Hi there. Thanks for the advice. Wanted to get the hang on filter. But have been contemplating for a month. So far the fishes and shrimps are doing fine. Thing holding me back from using filter is scared boss see I use office electricity, then not happy.

Normally I use 1 cup to change water daily. 1 cup almost 20% water. Ha ha. That's how small my tank is.
For the cooling part, as the office is air conditioned, so no worries on that. I think highest will reach is 28C.
    Lighting use office lights.
The funny thing is, my fissidens are growing here! at home, they are just covered with algae..... I think my water at home is too warm. Now running chiller. Hopefully will be better. Don't know how long will it take for them to grow nice and lush.
