    Thank you.

depends on whether you are using e-ballast for t8 or not.
if e-ballast is used, the heat generated will be similar.

if not using e-ballast what is it?
Those sold in LFS normally have or do not have e-ballast?

One more question, I was told T5 brighter but T8 more suitable for planted tank and shrimp tank.
Anyone can advise on this? Thank you

    Re: T5 or T8 hotter?

t8 tube can use magnetic ballast. but t5 cannot.

t5 is brighter than t8? depends on how it is compared.

    some specifications:
    osram lumilux t5 ho - 24w (power) 595mm (length) 6500k 1600 lumens
    osram lumilux t5 ho - 39w (power) 849mm (length) 6500k 2850 lumens
    osram lumilux t8 - 18w (power) 590mm (length) 6500k 1300 lumens
    osram lumilux t8 - 36w (power) 1200mm (length) 6500k 3250 lumens

using tube length as comparison, t5 is brighter for a given length.
using rated power as comparison, t8 is brighter ie. better luminous efficacy.

Higher wattage = higher temperature being given out. Correct?
