Calcium Carbonate according to Wikipedia has very low solubility in water
Solubility in water 0.00015 mol/L (25°C) . So the reason of cloudiness is due to undissolved particles.

Are you trying to buffer the water to increase the KH?
If yes, best recommendation is to use Potassium Carbonate. Buffer and add Potassium to make plant happy : ). Potassium is more needed than Calcium. Moreover, it dissolves beautifully!

Why would your plants need so much calcium?! What plants are they?
Wouldn't this increase your pH, GH and KH by alot if you're adding to the point of saturation that it turns the tank murky?

I see, no choice, agree with you once you buy something for trying, difficult to let go. Part of learning. Problem with self dosing, it's very difficult to get what you want without adding others. Like the case of CaCo3, you will increase KH, cannot be helped. I use Dr Mallick Calcium Nitrate solution to add both Calcium and supplement Nitrate. Work well..

    Good luck!

Even when you mix Calcium Carbonate with water before pouring into the tank, the water will still be cloudy but it's no cause for alarm as the cloudiness will go away after awhile. Sodium Bicarbonate won't have this problem and will also increase the Kh or carbonate in the water which is good for plants.

BTW where and what is the brand name for the calcium carbonate you buy? I'm looking for bigger packs and cheaper alternatives to the commercial brand names.
