Today, I bought a kH kit and I went home to measure the kH of my tap water and it show 1-2kH. Is this correct?

I never add any baking soda or chemical to alter the kH of my tank but the kH reading of my tank shows 3, why is it so? I am using JBL substrate fertilizer with the normal US sand as my substrate, not coral chips is added.

Normal US sand??? Are you sure it does not contain coral chips? How about addition of stuff to alter pH? Large amount of phosphate buffer can cause the KH to be inaccurate though..did you add any pH up or down stuff?

I never add anything to the water.

Just wondering if it is the test kit that shows the wrong reading.

The brand of my kit is AQUMEDI.

You should see blue for the first drop if the sample contains some kind of buffer.

I have a kH kit. It says after blue it will turn to bright yellow.
How bright is bright btw ? Or it the first sign of yellow ?
