from my limited knowledge , salt in larger quantities would kill the plants.
But how would it keep diseases at bay i am not too sure , any idea on whether it would kill those ick , or free swimming parasites ?

Salt would kill off planted organisms right ? thus would it be possible to put in some salt , and control the more common algae types with it ?
Hi NBK
Most plants have some form of resistance to salt but it does not go beyond the 3 tbsp mark. Algae will still thrive and has a higher resistance level.
Algaes have been around since the beginning of life on earth....they will find a way to survive since they have done so for 65 million years.....so you need to give them respect....
