    Hi,

Is it a requirement to certify the CO2 tank in Singapore?

Do they actually check that the tanks are tested before refilling?

it is advisable to get your tank certified. it is holding 1000+ psi.
most do not check your co2 cylinder before refilling. the bigger industrial gas suppliers (ie. soxal, ...) do insist on certified tanks.

In the US, the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulates this under the portable tank article. Steel tank needs to be certified every 5 years. Some type of tanks are not required to be hydrostatic tested and even a certain lifespan.

What is the requirement in Singapore and is under who's purview? Where can we find such information?

co2 cylinder certification is needed for industrial applications. these cylinders are subjected to compression/decompression cycles more frequently than those used for aquarium. the certification test serves to identify cylinders that are failing from metal fatigue.

Does it mean that we do not need to get the tank tested? Can you provide some information or facts link from the regulators? I can't find such information.

In the US, it is mandatory for portable tanks (above a certain size/made material) to be tested regardless of usage. The refilling station will check the last hydrostatic test date before allowing the tank to be refilled.

I can't find such regulation on PSB/Spring Singapore website. The only indication I found is from SCDF for transportation but it only states that hydrostatic certification needs to be provided, however not the details.

Re: Hydrostatic test for CO2 tank

For me I have sent to Asia Gas for the hydrostatic test 3 months ago when I top up my CO2 tank that I got from a friend and the cost is around $15-20. It give me a peace of mind after the testing as I would know that the tank is safe to place in my house cause if the tank explode it is no laughing matter as it could be a mini bomb.
    Just my 2 cents input.

    Here you go bro.

    Aisa Industrial Gas
    8 Gul Road
    S 629341
    Tel:68614000

Filling of the gas and the hydro test takes about 2 days in total if only top up gas it takes 1 day so if you are in/near Jurong area and can wait for 1 day that this is the place to go the top up is $12-$15 (can't remember) for a 2L tank.

I know of 1 gas refill company in Ang Mo Kio Ave 5 the company is call Silico (sometime like that) they use to provide pick up and delivery for an additional of $1.00 and the cost for my 5L tank for refill is $15 but that was few years back not sure if they do offer any more pick up and if it does weather they still charge at $1.00.

i don't think there is a legislated requirement else lfs would demand co2 cylinders to be certified before refilling them (whether refill is done by themselves or third party).
if you cannot find any requirements, you can refer to (and make use) of british standard or us standard.

at the end of the day, it's your judgement call. how important is safety...
