hello all, was looking around for a surface skimmer for my nano tank and i came across the atman hf-0600 HOB filter with built in surface skimmer.

i saw it on the racks outside Polyart in clementi some time ago, and i remembered that the box was quite big...could anyone who owns this filter be kind enough to measure and tell me the dimensions of the filter? length x thickness x height?

i'm just afraid that it can't fit behind my tank because it is quite near the wall, and i need the length as well because i need to know if i need to move some of my current piping on the back,

    thanks!

    Re: dimension of atman hf-0600

I found out that it would fit so I went ahead and got it on fri..

Set it up and connected it, everything ran smoothly, BUT after letting it run overnight the motor started vibrating loudly the next morning so I took it apart to see what was going on..apparently the impeller keeps knocking against the sides while running. I compared this to an old (but silent) ocean free HOB motor that I had in the storeroom and found out that the OF one does not rattle or knock at all compared to the atman one.

I made a trip back down to polyart and the boss was very kind and changed a new motor for me...I plugged the new motor in and it ran quietly..

That was Saturday, didn't notice any noise on Sunday, but I checked again this morning and the noise was noticeably LOUDER again

Can anyone who has experience with this filter tell me whether this is a defect? I noticed that the impeller is different from other kinds where the blades can be detached from the magnet, could this be causing the impeller to vibrate compared to the impellers that are stuck solid to the magnet? Could I change the impeller with one from another brand but a similar size?

    Thanks!

Check that your water level is where it should be.

    Re: dimension of atman hf-0600

hello I managed to fix the problem, apparently the impeller is the cause. The one that came with the filter has a plastic shaft with the fins attached that is locked onto the magnetic ring by a plastic catch, and this causes the fins to vibrate when spinning because the catch is not firm enough (maybe a defect in my past 2 hf-0600s or a bad design)

Anyway by securing the fins to the magnet with aquarium sealant, the fins no longer vibrate and is now totally silent, just giving a heads up if anyone else has this problem!
