Help! Currently i have 2 3ft tank and i filled both with 1inch thick of ADA Africana soil. Driftwoods, ketapan leaves and java ferns were also added to mimic betta's biotope.
The problem is, after a few weeks, the driftwoods and ketapan leaves start to mould. Can anyone help to resolve the moulding problem?

    Re: Mouldy driftwood

The driftwood and leaves are being attacked by fungi. The only way is to ensure you boiled the ketapang leaves BEFORE use. This kills any spores on the dry leaves and also any other harmful micro-organisms that might be on the surface of the leaves. As for the driftwood, to remove the growth, you need a knife and scrape off the affected area slowly, and carefully. You should carefully watched the driftwood before you set up the tank. Sometimes the wood tend to harbour fungi spores in the cracks and splits present, especially if they were exposed to the elements, in particular rain water and moisture. Remove the ketapang leaves on a regular basis. Leaving them there to rot only gives rise to unwanted algae growth, and in your case, fungi or mold.
