Hi all, I've just been wondering, with the big movement a while back to list down everyone's apistogramma species, how has the scene been?

No one seems to post in the Apisto for trade list and reports of fish spawning are sparse. Does anyone have new fishes to share?

Here are a couple of mine.

An agassizii morph from Rio Santarem (according to Mike Wise's agassizii tail chart)

Apistogramma agassizii "Tefe" male purchased from Hong yang.

Wow some very nice fish you've acquired. I've been busy with the start of school and somehow the server in my hall has AQ blocked.

Re: Apistogramma enthusiasts - how has it been going?

I've been taking a break from apisto keeping for awhile. The room my "Breeding rack" is in has been occupied, as some friends who were in between houses shifted in for awhile. Also recently shifted offices, so in preparation for that I tore down my office apisto tank too. Things are settling down though, and my rack should be commissioned again soon...so hopefully some new beautiful variants will be available when I come back to the hobby!

Many species of wild apistos have been banned for export by IBAMA due to the xingu dam project.

Hi gene, I saw the report. All they are allowing is about 5 species (or 5% from the 100 or so species found in Brazil) to be exported per year.

I suppose we still see wilds trickling in from the likes of Taiwan since they import massively from SA, but i think those are contaminants more often than not.

Another picture to spice up the thread.
Was sold to another friend as black seam at a relatively high price but I think it's worth it, considering the color and how healthy it was.

nice piece, it looks very well fed, abit fat infact haha. i have never come across a "black seam" variant, approximately how much more does a hobbyist need to fork out for such a piece compared to a normal one?

Hi, Marcus. It was going for twice the market rate for the normal red variants. The pair has just spawned, I was told. The female is delivering a super beatdown as we speak.

What i can say is agassizii do breed easily.
i have been using 1 male to breed with with 2 females.
Tank-size doesnt seem to be a problem. They even breed in a partion 1 ft tank.

Sheng, for some odd reason, they've never been able to breed at my place even after having kept them for months. Diplo has bred at my place, so has a whole slew of so called difficult species, but never agassizii.

just a question, do borellis have better chances of breeding in coconut husks or clay caves?

No difference. As long as they feel safe, water parameter is good, they have been conditioned by pumping them up, they will spawn. One of my pair dug a hole into the soil and bred under the riccia mesh.
