how does the solenoid made it produce cooling air?
Decided to get a cooling fan. Went to LFF and found so many types with such a big range of prices.
Was recommended a Taiwan brand by the owner and he said has some kind of solenoid inside that made it produce cooling air. Not sure how true is it though.
Question : Can brothers here recommend a good cooling fan? Good as in,,,is quiet...is effective.
I saw a lot of them have guaranteed 3-4 deg reduction but I wonder how true is that?
The cheapest is from $12 to as much as $90 and I am just wondeirng, if they all is a cooling fan, then they can reduce 2-4 deg but why then one can cost only $12 and the other $90?
The cheapest ones belong to dymax which I will skip(don believe in getting the cheapest). Say my budget is around $20 to $40, what brand should i go for if i want a really effective cooling fan?
Thanks!

how does the solenoid made it produce cooling air?

If iam not wrong...the difference in pricing depands on how durable the fan will last and rpm speed.
I even got a LFS uncle told me the more fan you clip, the cooler the water but i beg to defer as i did an experiment clipping 4 fans to my 2 ft tank and the lowest temp i can achieve is 26.5 degrees and averages at 27.2 degrees.Even clipping 1 Dymax fan will still get me abt the same temp as above.![]()

To be more precise.
Fan durability : Bearing type and operating current.
Cooling ability : Ambient Temp / CFM / RPM / Surface exposed
Ambient temp plays a large part here, 2nd by the CFM * Surface exposure.
But i am rather interested in what exactly he was trying to convey by saying "solenoid inside that made it produce cooling air."

26 and 27 deg have to depend on your ambient temperature.. for me i cant achieve that. the most fan can achieve is -2~3 deg of your ambient temperature and i dont support increasing the number of fans. =) for me i would recommend mr aqua tornado fan![]()

I reccomend ANS brand cooling fan..Erm the smaller one.... I have 2, SUPER quiet and effective. U can get at Colourful or C328 arounf $10 +![]()

I'm using the $8 fan from Polyart; a little noisy but it can keep the temperature down pretty well; water's now at 25 - 25d C![]()

Personally, I have ever had shrimplets using only a small DC fan. But they were mainly A - C grades. The fans that I used were the cheap ones and typically cools to about 27degC - tends to become noisy over time. Have also read somewhere before that one good option is those small clip-on electric fan available in Giant/NTUC..... they are cheap, durable (AC supply) and powerful. I have not tried it as I have converted to chiller some time ago. Cheers

it would be great if they mention detail spec like noise level in dB, air pressure, etc.
For all the fan for aquatic use, nothing beats the Tomi fan available readily at Giant, Carrefour and all major. AC fan, clip on, plug it into your timer, it will work fine and highly effective![]()

if you decide to use ac fan, you better ensure that the fan will not fall into your tank.
it is dangerous to place it near water with a clip-on. if it happens to be accidentally knocked into the tank, natural instinct will cause you dip into the tank to retrieve it.
