solenoid very hot!!

hi guys.
just bought my first co2 tanks full setup from NA.
but not sure on wether its fautly.(though i have gone thru the search of the forum, not very east to find the answer)

currently after using for a week, i realised that the heat on the solenoid is very very hot.. (hot to touch ).

is this normal?

Mine also leh. Bought from NA too. Hot hot hot! But think it's normal only those better ones not that hot.

Don't worry... as long as it's working. Some brands heat up , some don't. I'll only worry if they used to work cool, but has started heating up.

I use Tiren and JBS (I think).. both heats up.

those small heatsinks are abundant at SLT , sometimes can buy 1 get 2 free , if u know what i mean

as for adhesive , either u can go with Superglue , adhesive mixtures , heatpads . try not to use those double sided tapes , they aint conducting heat too well . epoxy is a no no , too thick . and since super glue is the most avaliable , i'll give u sugesstions on how to use it effectively

get your small heatsinks , give it a thorough wipe with tissue.
apply the Glue to the surface and smear it around with the nozzle(cos u dun want it on your fingers [] ) let the heatsink hang around awhile ( 1minute maybe ?) cos the glue will solidify slightly but make sure not too long as to it being totally hard .
While the sol is hot , put the heatsink on it , place it in position immediately without shifting around too much ,and give the HS a good press to ensure the glue goes around then stick on the other heatsink also ...

if i m not wrong , behind the sol unit there is a sticker stating the specifications n stuff , u might want to pull out the sticker and scrap off the sticky stuff before trying to apply another HS there

attaching heat sink to the solenoid by adhesives, as you have said, 'seems to give a peace of mind'. the adhesive acts as a thermal barrier and removes little heat. when proper thermal conductive adhesives are used, heat can be effectively removed from the solenoid but these special adhesives cost at least 10x the normal superglue. maybe what you are doing now is worse than without the heat sink.
and heat sinks has to be mounted with the fins in vertical to be effective.

solenoid can hum when it is energised.
is the solenoid new or used for a while already?

in a way , any physical (solid) contact would surely remove heat better then stagnent air .

the adhesives i happened to have some left over , www.chomerics.com for u to check out ?

oh yes , the fins ARE vertical , 4 fins each HS

but even if i wasnt using thermal tapes , normal super glue would Still provide a higher heat transference as compared to air

erm......... u can either buy from them , or go SLT and try to find , or maybe another option if u know of any []
