I just like to say something about CR light. I like them !!! Slim sleek profile due to the T4 tube they use, it may be difficult to buy other brand tube for replacement. I was aware of this and I still choose to buy it, why cos its cheap and good. I am now running 2x2ft 55watts light and a DIY 2x36watts for my 4ft tank. Good plant growth so far, it was a new tank set-up about a month ago. All plants are thriving the aponogetons have sent up flower stalks and the Ozelot and Rose have double in size.

Am using a pair of CR light (55w) that you are talking about. Acutally no problems for me, mine seem to be as bright as expected. Could be that you were given older tubes?

the problem is does it makes the plant growth healthy
and Do u get the spectacular display of nature bubbling effect (continuously rather than for 1 per min)) comparing from those PL light you find in electrical shop.

    adrodema : I assume yours is a 2 ft

Danny : Of course la....2X CR aquarium leh.I m refering to one "55w" CR aquarium light for a 2ft.Which should be good enough for the plants. In the end.....(i m referring to cr aquarium).Dun you find it ridiculous 2X "55w" for a 2ft planted tank....!! (assuming yours is a normal 2ft)

Btw its not mine cos i dun use them
cos my friends accounted the same problem
so i thou i should post up on the forum for more open discussion[:]

I have the same experience on CR lights. It is somehow dimmer and the life-span much shorter. Black rings appears on the tube 1 month into usage. The replacement is hard to find and expensive compared to 36W PL tubes. Not worth down the road...

I must say it is very appealing in look though.

hmmmmm........ so to say the replacement for the PL tubes are rather hard to find and would be infact more expensive then nominal similarly wattage types ??

any idea where to find replacements ?? cos its my first PL light , there was no other types around my area so i had to settle for this
