finrodz, too set up a 1ft tank for crs can be quite challenging due the variation of water parameters when changing water. Crs are quite sensitive creatures. Why not upgrade to a 2ft, you will face lesser problems in the long run.

hey, you can always try red cherry shrimp first. it's more hardy compared to CRS and it's nice too, there are also different grade of red cherry shrimp. like sakura, fire red shrimp. you can also check out those shrimp at Green Chapter midori.
Hi,
Green Chapter at clementi Ave 2...
Soil better go for shrimp soil like ADA or GEX and etc.
Normally for shrimp, it depend on what type you want.. i recommend those hang on filter with sponge or cannister filter =)
Other bros will give more suggestions and advise
Hi Bro
I used to use Gex OHF but it start cracking out loud noise after 9 months.
Changed to Eheim, more expensive, but virtually no noise....
yea my ehiem filter is 3 yrs old now and it's still running silently. i really love it![]()
hm... the popular choice seems to be GEX soil and ehiem OHF. correct me if i am wrong OHF is overhead hanging filter?
Hi, I'm surprised no one mentioned chiller. Unless you have aircon room 24/7 or stays in a cold country, your CRS will not last very long at room temp.
For soil, it should be something that can hold the pH at around 6.5. ADA Amazonia and Amazonia II is a good choice but they cost quite a fair bit.
I saw some new soil brands such as Project Soil and Aqua Concept in the Merchant Advertisements and Announcements section that claims to be able to do that too. I think they're also much cheaper.
The shrimp master Silane also sells a "shrimp soil" if you 're able to catch him.
Filter wise, there're many many schools of thoughts. I'm with the canister filter school. Get the biggest one you can afford. Unless you're planning to keep A, B & C grade CRS, the cost of the shrimps will justify the cost of the canister. I'm not saying expensive means 100% good, but I'm certainly not leaving $300 worth of CRS in a tank with a $15 sponge filter.
Some swear by undergravel filters for shrimp racks. Some go the giant sponge wall (can't remember the actual name for this) filter. Some rely on HOFs for small tanks. It all depends on your setup and tank size and whether you need the filter to also drive water through a chiller. There's no hard and fast rule here.
hm.... ok thanks for the advice, currently i have a 1 1/2 ft pure shrimps tanks, i have BDS( grade A-S), CRS ( hinos, 'no entry' A-SS) and some golden. i do not own a chiller but, everytime i am home my air con is on =). when i am not home the cooling fan is on. my temp is about 23-26 max. i just tested my parameters today and it reads :
PH 6.6
NO2 0ppm
NO3 20ppm
KH 35.8ppm
i notice 1 BDS and 1 Golden is berried, is there a high chance their eggs will hatch?
He's your tank bro?
I AM ADDICTED TO SHRIMPS!!!!
