What did i do wrong in the set up? I don't think it's supposed to be like this? it's flowing out in a messy manner.

i guess you never slot the charcoal with sponge filter properly. If not its the charcoal with sponge filter is not wet throughout.

hey eviltrain, i tried! doesn't work, seems like the water level in the HOF is very high, as you see on the right side of the photo, water is flowing back from there too. not just the left side. I compared this to my Dolphin HOF, it's not overflowing even when i turned it to the fullest.

Something is hindering the flow. You can try take out the media or the charcoal filter to try again.

it's not that bad now, but still quite disappointed with Gex HOF. My dolphin HOF doing much better at 2/3 the price of it.

Hi you may want to try putting something like a thin sponge or cloth in between the area where the glass touches the bottomw of the hof so that it is parallel on angle slightly tiding to the water surface. Not sure if it help I'm using gex s slim version the bottom of the hof come with a piece of plastic to adjust the angle

Could it just be that your filter is choked? GEX's filters choke really really fast...and when I added some media in front or behind the filter, it got worse. Pretty much gave up on GEX HOF and tried an Atman. Was super impressed by the Atman! The largest Atman costed less than the GEX S size...The only good thing on the GEX is that baffle which prevents water from falling down with great force (causing erosion) if the water level is not at the HOF height

I took out the whole filter to clean, it got alittle better only. What kind of media to put? ceramic rings? I'm upgrading to 3feet tank from my 2feet tank in December. Maybe then i get the Atman then put Gex also. You're right, Gex costs more than the rest. Just got to make do with it for now, many thanks to you for sharing! really useful

Sometimes it can't be help anyway, can I know what's the damage for this HOF? Am thinking of changing my sponge filter to HOF...

mind me adding input, as per what alan mention.
Something slowing down the flow too much till the wrong side overflows.

Try without media totally, then after that rinse the filter pad and put back.
Now you compare, chances are filter pad is the culprit.

GEX cost more due to design and maybe "designed in japan" ?
Love the way the flap thingy. (my dolphin brand didn't have it)
