Never mind in the wild....anyone knows how to culture them?

I think its a natural occurrence in tanks with good water quality, i had seen them in all my shrimp tanks i had before![]()

haha how do you catch them like that?
i have a siphon setup using air tube. one end ( in the top tank ) with air tube connector to prevent any shrimplets from ending up in the trap in the other end ( bottom tank ).
this was like the 3rd or 4th catch. so you can imagine the seed shrimp infestation initially. haha.

Hee hee. You can try using ada soil and some existing tank water. Use air sponge as filter. 1~2 months time there maybe seed shrimps infestination. Oh yaa throw some fish food in once a while too.

Ostracods aka seed shrimps appear in tanks that have plants or "soil" that contain dormant eggs from these animals. They occasionally appear in large numbers due to overfeeding on the part of the aquarist.
You can sieve for them in the wild from ponds with vegetation and a sandy bottom, but it is difficult to catch the correct animals, and most of the time you might end up with unwanted pests. Try asking from hobbyists who have "infestations". By the way, these ostracods play host to the Camallanus worm. If for some reason your fish get these intestinal worms, it is highly likely that they got it from ingesting these ostracods.

Yes, like Macritchie Reservoir but in the shallow waters near the grasses. These critters are usually found in slow moving waters. The Science Centre pond has them. They feed on detritus I think, but this is dependent on the species in question. Sometimes if the food item they require is not available in big numbers, they don't bloom in numbers. However when you overfeed shrimp, other things can explode in population.
Don't collect in the reservoir however, because you might get fined for doing so. Try those public parks with "natural" earth bottomed ponds. Not those concrete ponds. I think you can find them at aquatic plant farms too.

Inside, just behind the main building. They called it the Eco Pond. I don't think you're allowed to "fish" there. But I've seen all sorts of critters in the water. By the way, are you breeding your Triops? I once saw a science hobby kit at C328, which contained Triops eggs. These crustaceans are great as culling machines.. since they eat anything they come by.
Evil, that was a big miss. I would have done the same just for that seed shrimp.
