2 options:
1. Dechlorinate for water changes, but higher costs
2. You can get those huge water barrels along Jalan Besar area
I was wondering how you guys with lots of fish age your water in larger amounts? I don't have the luxury of having a tub beneath my stands to age water and was thinking of getting one of those blue plastic barrels.
right now, I use a simple pail and it's driving me nuts. I won't be able to age enough water to support my setup once my new stands and tanks arrive.
Help? Where can I go buy those large blue plastic barrels? Will it work?

I do dechlorinate water before even aging it. I've had horrible experience with chlorine in the past and now dechlorinate water before aging for at least 3-4 days with ketapang leaves before I do my water changes.
Where is Jalan Besar? Trying to figure that out in my mind...is that like near Bugis area?
Thanks so much.
You may try to look for those hardware store some of them may have or you could try TOYOGO at toa payoh. As for me i using this.

Thanks for the pic. I think that will be a bit small for me. I will probably need something that is about 3ft high and that much or a bit more around. *sigh* I think I'm going mad.
Bro, i think if you have a good anti-chlorine/chloramine then can save the trouble of ageing the water. I'm facing space constraints in my home so I have been just adding new water with some salt and anti-chlorine, and use it immediately. But I tend to overdose a bit more of anti-chlorine everytime just to play safe. Haha!
There's a shop just before Kitchener Road. On the right if you are heading towards town. L&H Global Pte Ltd at 247 Jalan Besar, thanks to Google Map
Go to google map:

Don't know if the link will be right. If not, enter 'Kitchener Road', put the little yellow man which is under the compass thingy on the upper left on the road and you can see the photos. Navigate it up-town and you will see the blue drums. You can see from the photos, they have many sizes.
Nope. Just tried it. The link gets you to Google Map. You have to follow the instructions. Not difficult. Only make sure you position the green circle below the yellow man at the location and not the legs of the man.
Been using stress coat plus for a while now instead of aging water, works for me. Any benefits of aging water as opposed to using AC?
Old thread but I'll just give my views as below.
Problem with aging water is this. Our water supply has both chlorine and chloramine. Aging the water via agitation with a circulation pump in a big barrel for a few days only helps to dissipate chlorine faster. Chloramine remains and to deal with it you either have to use activated carbon or a suitable dechlorinator which is capable of neutralising chloramine as well. Now the final problem is this. After you've gone through with a dechlorinator, the ammonia leftover from chloramine is still present, even though it's a small quantity. This is where the filter comes in to play in mature tanks.
I don't age water anymore these days, because it can get cumbersome and having a big container of water is just a recipe for disaster should there be mosquito breeding detected, not to mention the eyesore to your family members. Of course it's different if your family is acceptable to such things.
Personally, I would just set aside a 2 ft tank, keep some plants in there, especially floaters and such, and use it to age water instead. Any fish or plants present in that tank will be your canaries, in the sense that they will detect any problems with your fresh dechlorinated water before you even use it for a water change. You can even have a bag of activated carbon in that tank to aid in absorbing unwanted impurities in the water beforehand.

Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
I am using a 3.5 x 2.5 x 1 (about 200L) tub to age my water. i store my drift/bogwood inside it. i am also running a strong powerhead with filter inside for circulation and to trap any floating debris. whenever i top up the tub, i would add anti chlorine/chloramine to it and let it run for a day or two before i use the water. i find it quite useful if you have the space. just an idea...

I use a blue water drum, holds about 15 gallons.
