hi there! i have a 44cm x 29cm x 30cm tank without substrate currently. as you can see from my sig, its pure shrimps except for an oto. there's no plant, but plenty of moss. i have some used soil in a separate tank that i got from a bro. i'm hesitating about adding the soil because i'm afraid it might cause an impact to my shrimps' health. so i'm thinking of using a different alternative for substrate. any bro can share what kind of substrate you using or what you would recommend?
    my 100 gallon tank:
    - 23 blood parrots
    - 2 high-fin plecostomus
    my 10 gallon shrimp tank:
    - sakura, cherry, malaya, orange, snowball, tiger, bamboo
    - 3 otocinclus, 3 assassin snails

I use lapis sand, reason being it doesnt really affect pH, so it is easier to change pH, and also because i think that maybe it can provide some natural minerals in the water that is needed for the shrimp.

Avante bro, what kind of shrimps are you keeping? Different kinds of shrimps has different requirements.. some low ph, some higher ph... so substrate choosing actually depends a lot on what type of shrimps you are getting...
as far as i know, CRS, BDS or any of those in that family requires PH that is between 6 - 6.8...

i have sakura, cherry, malayan, orange and rock shrimps. if i'm not wrong, cherry is the hardiest. as for the rest, i'm not really sure. i won't be rearing CRS, that's the sure. water parameters would definitely not suit them. haha

i kept sakura & cherry in my tank using Gex Soil.. so its really depending on the other 3 kinds of shrimps' requirements..

i'm actually looking for something non-soil as i'm not keeping plants. having plants means needing to inject CO2, too troublesome. so i compensated with plenty of moss. spiky moss, moss ball, us fissiden, nana, etc, plus 3 pieces of driftwood. now i'm just lacking a substrate.

Base on the type of shrimps you are keeping, Lapis sand should be ok......
