You can use baking soda (not baking powder). Lots of ppl use that with no adverse effects... look in the Aquatic FAQ forum... there is a thread there about using baking soda to raise KH.
How to increase KH? Try to maintain KH at 7 & PH 6.8. PH can control by CO2. How about KH? If possible, I try not to use KH Plus. Is coral chip is the best solution? Can I have constant KH using coral chip? Anyone have other solution? Try not to spent money for chemical to increase KH. It may harm to fishes & plants.[]

Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
Can I get baking soda from aquarium shop instead of shopping centre? Afraid to get the wrong one with contain high PO4. I'm trying to control PO4 cos my tank PO4 is approx. 1 to 1.5ppm already. All KH raiser, coral chip & baking soda will bring up PH level. Isn't it
Baking soda do not contain phosphate. What makes you think that those in LFS is better than that from supermarket? I bet they are from similar sources packed differently.
Anyway, phosphate do not cause any problem at 1~1.5ppm. I have have very much higher than that (>20ppm) without problem.

BC, phosphate in baking soda... go see the Baking Soda thread in the FAQ.

Err... baking soda do not contain phosphates. Baking powder does. I think there may have been a mixed up.
It is safe to using baking soda from supermarket. Just make sure the label says "baking soda" or "bicarbonate of soda" or "sodium bicarbonate" and not "baking powder.

If it is safe, I go super market to buy. But this does not solve my problem cos I still need to add baking soda after I change the water. HDB water is too soft. Btw, Punggol tap water PH is 9.2[]
errrr.... PH 9.2 is extremely high and way out of PUB's guidelines. How did you get that reading? What kind of measuring kit are you using?----------------

PS: 9.2 is consider hard water, not soft.
Goondoo, it is within specs..7.0-9.0..maybe slightly off. Your KH is less than 1 with that kind of pH? I'm surprised.

I using PH pen to test tap water. Calibrated already. Heng heng co2 can bring down PH if not my fishes all die liao.
