Bro Nav, I would like to check with you about assassin snails.. Do they reproduce in our tanks? I have 3 currently in my old tank, but was thinking if i should bring them over to the new tank due to the fact that i dont want to have assassin snails outbreak but if they wont reproduce themselves, then I will introduce them to the new tank to prevent snails invasion in the future...

I wish they would breed FASTER! hahaha!
They're breeding, but very very slowly. I see babies running around, but it takes months to go from 5 smails to about 10 now, with a few babies...
If you have an outbreak, please give me the extras

    Haha.. Really?
I would gladly give u if I have.. Problem is I worry if there is a snail outbreak I can't stop it.. Just went to a friend's place and saw his tank full of trumpet snails.. It's really scary & ugly..

Well if u say they reproduce slow den I am going to transfer them except they got a habit I hate them to do.. Burrowing into the substrate.. Later end up messed up my scape.. Hahaha

are you serious? i'm thinking about adding 2 assassin snails into my shrimp tank which constantly has berried mummies inside. will they decimate all my shrimplets? and if i were to get some, how much do they normally cost? can PM me the price if inconvenient

I don't think they can catch any live shrimps. Most likely, someone saw the snails eating a dead shrimp and came to the conclusion that the snail killed it. Same story as the one where people saw planaria worms eating a dead shrimp and claims that the worms killed it.

I've seen the shrimps crawling all over the snails and even sharing food side by side with the snail. The shrimps are not as dumb as they look. They learn to fear predators after awhile and are constantly hiding and avoiding if there're predators in the tank.

The snails may take the really sick and half dead ones maybe, but then again, that shrimp's probably marked for death anyway

Re: Here's why assassin snails are good

There was a mistake which I did previously was to add horned nerite snails into my old tank thinking that nerite snails can clean my walls while my assassin snails can kill those other snails which i dont want...

but this is what happened... *SAD*

Take a closer look at the shell of the assassin snail... they have a 'hairy' tuff of algae growing on it and right now, all the 3 assassin snails which I have in my tank has that hairy tuff of green 'hair' on them... looks really cute but will it cause algae to move to my another tank too?

    Oops... Sorry OT bro Nav...

Nerites are good, until they start laying eggs all over. They're the only thing that'll eat greenspot algae if you don't mind their eggs covering everything in your scape.
Assassin will eat snails, thats a given, haha!

Green beard algae growing on the snails? hahaha!! Someone posted a thread where they were trying to glue hair algae to the snails to make the snails cuter. You did it without glue bro!
At least its not black brush algae...but GBA is also very aggressive growing under the right conditions...better not transfer them over. I personal think its an introduced algae...as in its not going to appear unless you bring in plants or livestocks contaminated with the algae.

It can look quite nice...kinda like marimo...but it'll be hard to control

Oh... so those are called green beard algae... if you dont mind me posting my assassin snails photos on your thread, i will post them later when i get home.. you will get a good laugh with all of those 'hair' growing on them...
i am trying to think of how to get rid of that algae and there are forum friends trying to 'paste' it on them? (Erm... Cute Assassin Snail for sale... Anyone?? LOL)

nerite is out for my new tank.. i wouldn't want any of those explosion of snails in the new tank.. but i read that nerite suppose to breed in brackish water, isn't it?
i won't be adding them into the new tank if that is the case as i dont want GBA to have a start in this new tank...
