Got Atman cannister filter. Is this what I should do to clean the filter?
1. Use only tank water to clean filter.
2. Switch off power to filter.
3. Turn water inlet and outlet to off position.
4. Remove filter top by releasing braces.
5. Put the lower half into a pail of tank water.
6. Scrub and change media if necessary.
7. Put the lower half and secure with braces.
8. Turn on power.
Am I right?

just worried about flooding my living room actually. I have spare fine filter so i'll dispose that old one. so I should be okay with my procedure then?

Point 5... no need to put the whole thing in. Your media should be in baskets or in net bags, so remove them from the filter and rinse them in the pail of tank water. As long as the media is not out of water long enough for the water to dry up, it's ok.
Why worry about flooding your room? Just remember to close the inlet/outlet taps.
Oh, you forgot to open the taps, and let the filter fill completely with water before you it turn on. Tip: open the filter outlet tap before opening the input tap.
