How cool is a 5 or 6 ft tank using fans and MH???

Hi all people with huge tanks!

Need your experience and help.

May I check with you guys how do you normally cool down your large tanks, ie. 5ft or 6ft tank? If MHs are used, are fans good enough to bring the temp down to the 28-30C range?

I'm contemplating a large tank setup but will like to avoid the use of chiller due to the hot air it generates. I dun wish to make the whole living room hot and stuffy. Please advise! Thanks!

if the tank is well-ventaliated, you need not worry about the stuffiness cause of the lights. It never produce that much heat to create that effect, however, its the glare of the MH that is more distracting. As for the cooling part, you might want to consider using a wall fan instead of AC / DC fan and because of the distance between light and water surface, expect evaporation

So the conclusion is the normal DC/AC fans will not be good enough to bring down the temp. within 28-30C.

Hmm... mounting a wall fan may not be much of a looker though...

wall mounted fan [] dual purpose, cooling of the tank and for us... presently, I'm using it with my 6ft plus FL lights, moving soon and fixing 2 MH for it
