Actually all plants need CO2, but i guess you are asking if CO2 supplement is needed for HC to survive.
Based on what i have read up on, it depends.

HC itself is not a CO2 demanding plant. By saying non-CO2 demanding, i mean it takes in CO2 very slowly. So a direct answer to your question is no. It does not need CO2 supplement to survive as the water itself has sufficient CO2 for the HC.

However, if you are planting HC with other plants, CO2 level in the water will be lower as the other plants will be competing for it. This will in turn cause the HC to have insufficient CO2 and might not be able to survive well.

I have recently scaped a pico tank with HC without CO2, you can check it out http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...tech-pico-tank

Hope it helps. I might not be right as there are many people with different opinions, so i guess the best way is to try it out for yourself.

    Cheers!

    thanks!

But i forgot to mention that i started it with Tom Barr's dry start method, which allowed the HC to establish its roots properly before i filled in the tank.
Good luck with your HC! Cheers!
