    Hi,
i'm very new to marine tanks... saw few setups at some lfs.
at pet safari, Super* aquarium @ downtown east, yishun's KS aquatics and Wong Loy Kee @sago lane. they are so beautiful, especially those corals and fish.
i saw small tanks about <1ft to 1.5ft tanks at pet safari, super* and yishun. they only had a large hanging external filter and that's all. will this work?
as kelstorm says that the thickness of the glass should at least be 8mm but i saw theirs and it's definitely about 5mm or less. I have a 1.5 ft curved-edged glass tank of about 5mm thickness. can i use it to set up a marine tank just like what I saw?
how does an ocra skimmer looks like? very new here so many terms don quite understand. and what are the steps and pointers to take note and consider when setting up a marine tank?

thanks guys in advance for your pointers, advices and tips

while i would advise ppl to go for marine tanks bigger than 2 ft, anything lesser than that needs tons of attention as the tolerance level of smaller tanks are lesser and any slight error or changes in water properties, will result in a drastic and fast change in such a small environment. as such, i dun advocate such small tanks. U can try to take a pic of those small tanks and go back there say, 2 weeks later to compare the pics. u will know what i mean.

marine setup tends to be slightly heavier than FW setup. This is due to the rocks, weight of water (in terms of comparing litre for litre with FW), and coral sand.

The filter wise, a hanging filter is suffice for that size. in fact, me using a 2213 for my 2ft tank. However, before u do that, u must consider what i keep inside, which is very impt. I only have 1 seahorse inside it and 2 boxing shrimps. Thus, the bio-load is very little. if u are gonna keep tons of fishes, 2ft tank is not the tank for u, let alone 1.5 ft.

u can try reading up on the Aquatic FAQ. There are several links which u might be able to find out more info. My suggestion is to get a book, u will be able to find out lots more info and some terms that might be able to clear your doubts.

As for how the ORCA skimmer looks like, u might want to take a trip down to Petmart to take a look. There are several models. They also have Sanders Skimmers.

I went to watercircle at Tyrwhitt Rd today afternoon. selling live rocks at 20 per kg, marine water, fishes, seahorses, coral sand, all available there. Friendly shop owner. saw Ocra skimmer there. He used that for a 1ft tank. He told me that his tanks all are about 5mm thickness only and got no problem. He got 3 very large tank of live rocks. some of them with corals. very nice.

the prices of seahorse ranges, depending on the species. available in farms.. but, take note, they should be in a species tank and u must provide their special dietry requirements.
