Joe:
How about using black coloured netting and tie on it?
Or plant some plants in front of the filter to block a bit?

I am currently using an Eheim Liberty 100 for my 15" tank... this hangon filter works great but the grey surface is kinda distracting when i'm trying to enjoy my tank...
Therefore, I am thinking of painting its front surface to a matt black to match my black background.
Has anybody tried this before?
i'm thinking it would take at least a full day for the paint to dry... and in the meantime where do i put my ceremic stones that will keep my bacteria colony safe?
also, what type of paint is suitable and will not harm the fishes and plants?
thanks

hi koah fong,
netting? the shape is kind of odd to wrap around... and besides it does not seem pro enough leh...
the water flow outlet is pretty high yeah... and i don't want any plants to be blocking the water flow & circulation, so i don't wish to plant taller plants near the outlet...
any other ideas?
thanks
You can tie Java Moss, Java Fern etc on the part of the filter that is submerged in water. I am sure it will look cool. Just like camouflaging in our army days.
I have seen some setups where they tied Java Fern on their Eheim filter intake hose.

What if after painting looks uglier?
Anyway after you paint, its hard to sell the filter in future if you dont need it anymore.
Live and let live, stop using life feeds.
hmmn... interesting idea kf...----------------

but that would mean that those plants would be pretty near the lights... will they get burnt?![]()
that's quite possible too, then i'll have an excuse to buy a new one?! ;DDD----------------

don't intend to sell since it has been used for more than a year already...
Hehe, sometimes have to make one big round to buy a new tank, buy a filter, etc...

btw, will my bacteria colony be safe if i dump my bag of ceremic stones into the tank for a full day under the light?
No problem. As long as there's the same tank water.
In fact the bacteria can be found everywhere. In the substrate as well.

if that's the case, then why is it really necessary to have the ceremic stones in the filter?----------------

I guess to have more bacteria build-up in the filter since water is flushing through consistently. There are some people who don't have any media in their filters for their planted tanks, which is equivalent to using a powerhead. One such person I read is Diana Walstad.

why take a whole day? buy those spray paint can, wrap those parts you don't want painted in plastic or something, take it out doors, and just spray. takes no more than 10 minutes to dry.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

i was thinking of using those airfix paint which is non-toxic based, so need to hand paint and might take quite awhile...
