Matured tank means the water parameter maintain very constant. Normally a mature tank is around 6~18 months. After the 18th month, the soil will deplete and lost its property to keep the soil mild acidic. Depend on indivduals, some will change soil totally or just simply top up part by part. Change soil totally with existing equiptments will make cycling stage faster. But the problem is where to put the shrimps. So its normally best if you alternate a spare tank.

if possible, you can add a non-working and non-leaking external canister in line after the existing external canister to " over filtration " the tank. this way will gives you more media area and additional water for your tank.
Bro i got a question on this over filtration method.

    1) the 2nd canister must be lower flowrate or higher flowrate than the 1st one?
    2) the 2nd canister need to be running or not require just let the 1st canister do the job?

I think of using this method to gain more water for the tank

haha, normally will get a higher power as the main. example a 1000 litre/hour (on), a dummy which is 500 litre/hour (off).

like that you can have more water and media for your existing tank.

If you wants, you can actually use a sump tank instead. More volume for media and extra water for your tank.

Hee hee just make a cover for the bottom tier using those plastic panel sold in popular and some velco will do the job. If not, cover your sump tank with glass cover.
