I recently purchased 4 tiger oscars ?(abut 4 inches in size).

But they seems to be quite sick, not eating at times, and now kena fungal and bacterial infections...3 of them have fin rots, cloudy eyes, u name it...they got it. Only one seems quite normal, except some minor tears on its fins (sustained during comm fights)

To save them, i tried API Melafix and Pimafix, with 50% WC everyday, and raising the temp to 30 deg with salt. But their situation has not improved, they look so bad that i feel like ending their pain now...but i have not done so, because i feel they can be cured eventually.

On the other hand, i keep 7 oscars ( 3-4 inches) at my office, and they are almost the opposite situation to that of my home oscars....they are really active, with frequent comm squabbles to determine the daily king of the day position. I just do daily water changes up to 70% straight from the tap, no conditioners, no salt...nothing. i know some bros will object, but they have grown from 2 inches babies to 3-4 inches eating machines.

I do wonder if my house oscars will survive until end of the year...i feel very sadden everyday wheni come home, and see they are not improving at all.

I have to ask the following questions:

    1) Size of tank
    2) Decorated or not
    3) Diet

Somehow I feel your Oscars at home were already sick to begin with. Often people just feed them with live feeder fish, which are usually infested with other diseases and pests. I would not feed an Oscar with live fish unless I breed guppies and have too many fry to get rid of. To be frank, I do not think the ones at home will survive. If their tummies are sunken in then you must be prepared for the inevitable.

Be very careful when you feed your Oscar with those live feeder fish. Some come with Anchorworms, Argulus and a host of other problems after being kept in cramped and filthy conditions.
