If you want to go to the 3ft tank, my advice goes for 433 sump tank, be more enthusiastic like me. I was never undertaking paludarium before, and I just go for 633 sump tank and made it work!
From 433 sump tank, you can generate a total ecology system, all you need to add more bacteria houses as main media and pump toward the rain bar or waterfall. Why must you waste on 3ft ...so boring, oops?

Your primary problems are the light and moisture requirements of Venus fly traps, the very small number of species that could be kept in such a small enclosure, and the sensitivity of Venus fly traps to the interference that could be caused by the feeding and movements of the animal.
