Anyone here have experience or knowledge using lily pipes on small tanks? Need advise.

    Currently I have a 40cm x 28cm x 24.5cm tank with HOF. Wanted to
change to lily pipe powered by eheim 2213. Anyone know what size should I use?
Also heard that inlet pipe should be larger than outlet pipe, eg. 13mm diameter inlet with 10mm dia outlet. Is that true?

    Thanks in advance

Why don't you just follow the filter in/out flow size. For 2213, if I remember correctly should be 12/16 hose for both in and out. So you need to get lily pipe with the size of 13mm.

By the way 2213 might be too powerful for your tank size, you might want to try 2211

Hi! You can try the lily pipes made by ANS. If i remembered correctly, i saw 2 sizes of lily pipes made by ANS at Seaview. One of them should fit your ehiem dimensions. Maybe you can give them a call before going down?
    Cheers!

Re: Lily pipe for small tanks

Bought a 2213 as I always believed over filter is always better than under filter. Besides, if too strong can always reduce flow but if too weak can't really do much.
(Also got the 2nd had 2213 at a low price and abt same cost as a 2211)

13mm pipes I feel too huge for my nano tank. NA uncle says can use a eheim
pipe connector that "converts" the hose size to a smaller size to fit smaller lily pipes. But the lily pipe they selling "looks" too small for my tank but I'm not really sure.

Which is why I'm posing the question here.

    Anyone can shed some light?

Hi griffinkid! Yes saw that lily pipe at Seaview. One is too big, looks like for 3ft tanks, while the other I feel too small. Looks like the one NA selling.

yes you can use converter, the smallest lily pipe would be 10 or 11mm. There are 3 different sizes available, 11mm, 13mm and 17mm.

I thought NA sells CAL Aqualabs lily pipes. The one for nano tank comes in a set (13mm I think) and is suitable for your tank size.

Re: Lily pipe for small tanks

Hi all, thanks for the suggestions.
    Here is my update:

    1. Got the step down converter from Polyart, its cheap2 china brand but it does its job. C328 is Eheim brand and it cost almost 3 times!
    2. After surveying a few LFSes and internet, finally settled on the GUSH ones from Midori. Midori also sell CAL Aqualabs but they are costly. GUSH ones a more ex then ANS but cheaper than CAL and definately ADA or DoAqua! Quality is also not so bad. Got myself a 13mm inlet and a 10mm outlet lily pipe. Doing very well now in my 40cm tank and I must say, I can truly see the benifit of using lily pipes vs HOF! Clean aesthetics and very functional. The shape of the lily pipe creates not only promotes good water flow, but also it creates a vertex near the surface of the water it that help to suck in stuff from the top.(like an underwater skeemer) And of course, they are location free so you can virtually relocate them anyware you want and also position it higher to "aerate" the water by creating bubbles!

Happy with my purchase and Midori having a 10% promo also!
Will try to post some pics of my first attempt at aquascaping when free

Haha yes that is true. That's why I think eheim pipes are all dark transparent green in colour. Even before use already "got" algae on them. Muahahaha!!

Anyways got myself a flexible pipe brush to clean those lily pipe and hose. But that will be an ovehaul cleaning job which will be done when I'm cleaning my 2213 also

    Hey,

Am also looking for similar setup for 1 foot tank, wondering if you could advise on the total cost invested for the equipments.(can SMS me if discussion of pricing is not allowed here

Am currently using a Eden 501, wondering if it's the same kind of tubes that will be needed.

    Thanks

Re: Lily pipe for small tanks

Hey tiintinn, did not have time to post pics. Will do so when
I'm free. Anyway cost of your setup really depends on what brand or
quality you want. For lily pipes, china brand like ANS will set you back abt 40 - 50, but glass quality and joints may not be so great. My gush pipes from midori set me back abt 60 - 70 as there was a promo. They are thai made and quality better than china made ones. Cal aqua labs ones are also from Thailand but cost about 20 - $30 more. Of course you can go for high end one like Ada, but that will be in the hundreds. Too big of a hole
for my pocket. Hey but if you have the buck, by all means. Other stuff like tanks filter
also depends on they brand and quality. I believe Eden 501 will be quite sufficient for a tank size like your (it's abt 40cm?) but do bear in mind that it must be placed at least the same level as your tank
    or it won't pump efficiently.

For Eden 501, Gush size 10 is just nice especially for a 1 feet tank.

Damage should range between 75-95 for both inlet and outlet.
