With those big DW, it may take a year or more to totally leech out all the tannin. I did the same amount of WC as you and same thing, the water changes color shortly. Take photo also not nice![]()

Yup yup, same here. Most of the nice shots is straight after water change. Usually I do WC on weekdays night after work and no matter how tired also must take some shots first. hehe...
I am thinking of reducing the DW especially the lighter colored one. I suppose those are the newer one which leech the most. Can't stand it having to wait for WC to take photos. Most of the impromptu photos are yellowish...![]()

Some updates.. most plants should be removed and replaced by next month.. still looking for low-tech background plants though.

It's been a short period of time and your plant are so lush and green... Your carpet looks wonderful... So envy...

wow...nice tank..![]()

[QUOTE=EvolutionZ;587431]Once a week after a 50% WC.. i get to enjoy a few hours of crystal clear water.. after that.. it turns yellowish again for the rest of the week.. its been 4 months and im still having yellowish water..
i don't think the yellowish water is cause by the DW, my 1ft tank without DW also turn yellowish. Until i replace to other brand then i can enjoy crystal clear water.

[QUOTE=stmoo;588750] What did you replace? The filter or tank?
If without DW and water is not clear, it should be algae issue already. Usually can be solved by using diatom filters but tannins stained water cannot be solved by filters. Have to boil, use carbon or change water... Just my 2 cents.

Eve and Jeff: any background plants to introduce? As I planning to add some to my tank now. Haha. Rotala there are different kinds right?

[QUOTE=stmoo;588750] well, initially i also thought that it was the soil... but many people have told/shown me that they were using the same soil without problem.. what i plan to do is to siphon some soil out when i do the next major plant trimming and cycle in a separate tank to see if it turns yellow..
Personally being a noob in stem plants, i hate rotalas.. they don't straight when they recieve strong light, they creeps instead..
If you are using ADA, different batch got different components.
As i was told, newer batch does not have wooden flakes in the soil.![]()

I'm very noob in stem plants/crypts! Haha. Maybe qc for aqua concept soil is lenient, resulted in different pack =\ diff results?

EvolutionZ, have you tried Seachem's Purigen?
The stuff works wonders. I've been having cloudy water for weeks. I just popped Purigen in a few hours ago and within an hour the water was noticeably much clearer. Should be crystal clear by tomorrow.

Amazing!! Very wonderful tank!
