The stuff works wonders. I've been having cloudy water for weeks. I just popped Purigen in a few hours ago and within an hour the water was noticeably much clearer. Should be crystal clear by tomorrow.
Did you tried Purigen on your planted tank? Do update again how are the plants reacting. Wanted to try it but worry it will absorb up the nutrients and affect the plants as I am doing dosing ferts.

    Hi jeffteo,

Yea I just put it in yesterday night. Water cleared up significantly, previously I was having unexplained cloudy water.

Here are a couple of references:
    http://www.seachem.com/support/forum...ead.php?t=2510
    http://www.barrreport.com/showthread...n-Planted-Tank

Basically purigen supposedly doesn't remove nitrates which was an important factor for me (I'm dosing KNO3). Main aim was to polish the water up.

Thats why I read too, suppose to be preferred over activated carbon for planted tank. Especially when dosing.
Maybe your tank too big for it to "clean" fast? How much did you put in anyway?

Evo: what plants you changed to?
IMO, its the soil, you tried putting some in a pail and see how?

Weird, a search on Google says Purigen does remove tannins.

    *shrugs* my apologies

But the water in my 2ft is clearer than ever!

Maybe it is not tannins that is the cause here? Maybe is algae?

Evo, maybe you can try borrow a UV sterilizer to test if it helps?

Of course you can dose when have activated carbon but the effect will be lesser as it will be absorbed by the carbon. It will be a waste and you will have to dose everyday.

Don't bother wasting any more water. It's very likely coming from those huge driftwoods that are in your tank. Mine took a long time before the water became clear.

    Re: EvoZ's 422 planted tank.

Some simple update... Tank still in a mess!

    When removing high-tech plants,

Planted E.tenellus on all foreground and background area.. will add more bolbitis and crypts.

FTS.. sorry for those tubs of plants.

    Re: EvoZ's 422 planted tank.

Some updates. added discus to the tank, a total number of 6.. had white spots outbreak last week and had to raise temperature to 32C for treatment.. therefore most Xmas moss turned brown as you can see from the pic below.. already retied the woods with healthy green xmas moss..

i also removed the black background so the colors of the discus wont be darken.

    Another view

    discus group shot.

Right now plants are in the recovering mode.. algae infested + melting.. probably due to the high temp which lasted for a week before i turned the heater off and on back my fan..
