    wooduck,

I think so if your tank is in matured stage, usually more than a year.

New tank with fresh base fertilizer will seep enough nutrients to cause algae or bacteria boom if it is not balanced when it reach the water column.

If you wish to have low maintenance, go for low lighting. For your tank, use 36 watts x 4, turn on 7~8 hrs a day. And with load bio-load like yours, you can change water every 2~4 weeks. Of course, you have to fertilse properly. With that, you can maintain nice and lush growth tank without algae.

    Hi FC

Thank for the infomation, as I using ADA soil and Power sand Special, the base fertilizer doesn't seen leaking to the water colume.
Infact, I only use 2x36w Fluo. BTW will monitor my tank daily to check for any outbreak of algae.

    Eric,

"I using ADA soil and Power sand Special"
    That is basically peat based.
With low light, low bio-load, you will be fine with the followings added:
    1) CO2 at 4 bps - turn on together with light (2 bps if no solenoid control)
    2) dose K about 10 ppm

You only need to start micros after 1 month setup.
