Hairgrass can be as a foreground or/and background plant for a nano tank. You may try moss lawn or us fissiden. Both will look great when matured. Just my 2 cents.
As above,a noob in planted tank.Got a 30cm cube tank and a 9w PL light.Tank temperature should be between 26-28 degrees.Soil would be ADA amazonia 2.Btw how thick should my soil be,5cm??

Anubias Petite Nana, Anubias Nana, Java ferns, all very easy to maintain plants. They are also usually tie to driftwood so that adds some variation to your tank, just choose the correct size.

You can try to tie moss to a nice shaped bogwood or driftwood and once it matures it will look very nice. But yes to plant foreground plants you will need at least 4cm of soil and you can try to use the finer grain size by GEX to fill the the foreground instead since it will be easier for the roots to entrench in. Just my two cents worth!![]()

with only 9W, hairgrass will be extremely slow grow![]()
You can refer to http://www.tropica.com/plants/difficulty/easy.aspx
Then with a lower light source power rating, you can consider easier plants like moss or java ferns![]()

but with ur 11w,hairgrass can grow??
U are not pumping CO2 in that tank right? If so, the hairgrass will not cover the whole foreground. You will find that the hairgrass growth will be slow and dispersed.
Better alternative is to get those fissidens on mesh. Easier maintenance too.
