    How to remove the brown things inside the hose connecting to my canister filter?

    1. Detach from filter and tank. Attach to tap and blast the tap. OR,

    2. I bought an ADA hose cleaner many years ago from NA in Thomson. Consist of a short brush head attached to a thick (about 1mm?) nylon cable. String the cable through the hose, then pull the brush head through from the other end.

    I bought a set of cleaning brush from Polyart and used that to pull through the eden501 tubings and rainbar
    too works fine

    Is there a need to remove those brown things? I suppose it is beneficial to the tank.....

    too much of it will slows down the flow rate. other people might see it as dirty. hee hee

    I stuff those sponge into it and run water from the tap.

    Use some filter wool, fit it into the the hose (Slightly tight fit) and use pressure water from your tap to push the wool through the hose.
    All the brown stuff will be push out.

    from what i see, it's actually dried brown algae. i do constantly clean my piping as i cannot stand the side of them.

    Better to remove. First looks nicer and second thing is when u turn on your filter, those brown things will not get blown into your tank. Very unsightly.
