Nitrate seems fairly high so if can wait, then wait a bit until the nitrates come down. Otherwise, RCS quite hardy and you can take a risk.

PH seems fairly high for shrimp soil and GH seems really low.
HC melting a bit here and there. Not sure if it is from the DSM stange as I never remove it. I am dosing Excel day and night, maybe is helping to control the melting in some way.
So Nitrate got to be zero also? The plants are not sucking it up fast enough, maybe will add a few frogbits.
With 4dKH in such a small tank, the pH sure basic but RCS can take it right? Planet Inverts stats they survive between pH 6.5 - 8.0.

rcs can take your PH, no problem. Just that I find it strange since shrimp soil supposed to lower PH below 7.

Nitrate 5ppm actually ok but you haven't cycled your tank right?

    Re: Nano Scape (DSM)

The soil should already be cycled during DSM, now waiting for the filter BB to build up and I need to add more bio load to sustain it.
With zero for Ammonia and Nitrite and trace of NitrAte, it should be considered cycled already.
Maybe will do 50% WC and throw the Oto in tonight.

Singapore tapwater can have 0.5-15 ppm of nitrate. Not very sure but have not noticed any ammonia introduced so maybe cycling process have not even started. I have not done DSM so maybe let the experts comment ba.

    Re: Nano Scape (DSM)

Ammonia will come from the rotting plants and some from the soil. DSM waiting time is almost the same as normal method minus the algae issue if I understand Tom Barr's article on DSM correctly. Simply put, a normal start will go thru nitrogen cycling and growth for 1 month and may have algae issue. DSM will go thru the same w/o much algae issue if water is only at the soil level. Can someone who have done DSM also confirm this please?

I tested my tap water before and NitrAte is zero. Actually there are very slight trace of Ammonia when I measure the tank water but i choose to ignore it as it is very very faint only.
I also added Nutrafin Cycle to the Biohome directly and this product works for me and I trust it will work again. Maybe tonight will squeeze the filter sponge water from my main tank to add more BB. Quickly cycle and and my RCS will go in soon...

    Re: Nano Scape (DSM)

Did some search on DSM and tank cycling and confirmed that the tank do not need to go through another round of cycling.
DSM is the same as fishless cycle.

Just went C328 and saw the price of CRS. Wow! Each cost as much as my Horned Nerite Snail when buy in bulk of 10. Can't bring myself to get any yet. Will stick to RCS for now.

good that it's cycled already then. Sorry, I didn't really read up on nitrogen cycle for DSM. So the RCS in already?

RCS not in yet. May wait till I come back from my HK trip then put in. Will be away for 5 days and I only have auto feeder for my 2 feet which the breeder box with the RCS is on. I know they can go without food for few days but just want to play safe.

    Re: Nano Scape (DSM)

Got the ANS 1000 fan and sponge for the filter intake from C328 yesterday. Also bought Seachem Equilibrium to bring up the GH.

Due to the sponge occupying more space at the corner, I have no choice but to move the Crypt away to make space for it.
DSM have really help the plants rooted well. Look at the long roots from the Crypt.

Some update with the new fan. Sorry for the cloudy water from the moving of the Crypt. While cooling the water, the fan is helping to keep the LED light run cooler also.

My tank is getting more and more of those tiny white worm like bugs which I know are common in a shrimp tank but does anyone one know what exactly are they and how to control the population. I noticed quite a lot of it on the glass and it looks unsightly.

    Re: Nano Scape (DSM)

After some replanting here and there, finally HC are growing low and those that are tall continues to grow taller. Added DIY CO2 3 weeks back before going for my vacation and let it continue to run till now after I am back. I believe other than the strong LED lighting, CO2 is helping to keep the HC low too.

FTS 1 month after flooding the tank.

    Finally! Berried RCS mama

Thanks. I am using 2213. Got a bigger one in case I want to upgrade to a bigger tank in future.

in terms of shrimp tank, they appears because of overfeeding. are u feeding too much for ur shrimps? 1 week try to starve them for 1 or 2 days. and remove the left over food.

I don't really feed them, maybe once a week i drop a tiny sesame size pellet meant for my Cory to give them some variety.

Chop the pearl grass down to minimal as it keeps falling forward and block light from reaching the HC below. Got to let the HC carpet fully before letting the pearl grass grow tall again...

I got to use those big hose at the outflow to "soften" the flow. The same effect as a lily pipe minus the whirlpool sucking effect.
I also have double taps to help control the flow slightly when the filter media is clean. Once the media starts to clog, i slowly open up the flow from the double taps to increase filtration.
