you can probably tell us your tank spec so we can give you more relevant opinions like your lighting fixture, co2 etc
Here is my new tank for Sakura Cherry.
It is actually a pre-run before I add in Painted Fire Red and low grade CRS.
Sorry, picture is abit dark.
Black quartz instead of soil.
Yes, there are fish inside it as well.
4 Neon Tetra
3 Cardinal
3 Galaxy,
2 Otto
and 5 Sakura Shrimps
+ 3 Horned Nerite
+1 Zebra Nerite
I think the moss on the right is peacock moss?
A little brown at the moment because I soaked it with H2O2.
I like it as it is very fluffy and maintain itself well.
The one in the center is willow moss if I am not wrong.
Not really my type of moss as it can be quite messy but provide a good hiding place.
Will need to trim the willow moss a little.
If you feel any part I can improve on, do please let me know.
Many thanks.

There is no need for lighting in this case.
It is placed at the window where it get a few hours of direct sunlight (late afternoon and hence not intense).
It also get daylight from sunrise till sunset.
I find that my moss grow better and fluffy with daylight rather than bright light or direct sunlight.
I do not believe in Co2 for my case, I have about 7-8 rooted plants in the background that will grow tall and they do not need a lot of Co2.
They can get it from the fish. =P
Co2 is more for those who has a heavily planted tank.
Water temperature is between 24-27.5degree celsius.
Water parameter is excellent and is running with a mature hang on filter from my previous tank.
I feed the fish only once a day and make sure that they finished the foods within 2 minutes.
Shrimps and oto get a treat every few days or scavenge what is left from the fish.
Am currently working on the landscaping for my smaller tank which is using Ada soil rather than black quartz.
It had been doing very well except CRS casualty due to cleaner spraying insecticide in the room which I found out too late.
Not a bad aquascape, maybe you can plant some foreground plants to make the tank look more green and lively, because the balck quartz at the front looks a bit too dull.
There are fern and hair grass on each corner.
I am sure they will be bushy and spreading when mature.
At the left side, there is HC as well(not shown in picture due to lighting and poor phone camera issue), I do not think it will grow well on quartz though.
There is a grey pebble with java moss on it on the left(again not so clear on the picture).
On the right are 1 granite rock and 1 smal volcanic rock with fissiden.
These 3 act as color contrast to reduce the boring black quartz.
I have no intention of covering the foreground with too much green as it will take away the purpose of having black quartz.
Hi... very nice!
Photos can be better if it is shot at night without the light from the window.
The tank is simply beautiful, the colours all match very well.![]()
Thank you very much, unfortunately, there is no TLC lately as I leave it with one of my staff a few months ago.
Will take it back when I can find a space for it.
The temperature seemed to have a rather large swing throughout the day. Probably more "natural" in a sense but I'm surprised your night time temp can be as low as 24 degrees.
Where did you get painted fire reds from bro?
My chiller(am using it for my CRS, in a different tank) is just working as hard.
The temperature in the afternoon is hot.
Even though it is cool in the evening, we got back from work around 10pm or later and afternoon heat is trapped inside as all windows close.
We try not to open any window due to mosquitoes, animals that might crawl in(snakes and etc...) and for security reason.
How much extra are you paying for electicity?
Close to $20SGD a month by my estimates...might go up now that i've added another 2 tanks of 4x2x1ft as a shrimp rack.
Pest control is always an issue, especially if your house is not high rise. The fish tank is like a pest magnet even in my house. I was hoping to find somemore painted grade fire reds...haha
Had been culling like mad for more than a year. I'm getting improvements and i now have the means to do selective breeding ie a new shrimp rack. Hehe
Remember the times when painted fire reds are $2 from petmart. It's so common that I have it away in the end when I setup for crs. Haha
A picture to remember![]()
Zack
I can get that but they usually show that colour after giving birth second or third time.
Also, the legs can be bit random of whether all red or with some white.
My aim is to get them to become thick red like that at first pregnancy, then next target is thick red baby. hahaha.....
I think Navanod will get there first as I have yet to start such project. =P
