The male guppy inserts his thingie into the female guppy (isn't that the grossest thing you can imagine??!!) and after a month or so, horrid lil' babies emerge from the lady's anal region ... she may also think they are food and gobble them up.

I'm going to petition the mods for ratings, G, PG, NC16, etc.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Can we add "Restricted, but not Artistic", in short R(!A) ? ... And this thread should have the honour of being the first to be awarded this new rating.

I'm sure the male guppies would beg to differ. []----------------

I can't say I'm a true champion when it comes to guppies. All died anyway. BUT! Heavily planted tank or a nice two feet with plenty of java moss and a light to keep it growing should give you a nice population with some to sell by the end of the year perhaps.
If you're wanting to try it seriously, might wanna keep pure strains. They eat just about anything.

Just keep the pair together?
keep the aquarium relatively clean and maintain stable water parameters...
Slightly alkaline water will be beneficial for guppies.
I've got 2 male and about 9 female guppies and can't make the fry die for some reason. I even bought clown loaches and dwarf gouramis cause the guppies wouldn't eat their fry themselves.
Out of about 10 babies 8 survived and are now about 2 weeks old and it looks like they are completly happy with the tank and eveything. I really don't know what to do because about 5 more females look like they are going to give birth at any time.
I have a 27.5 gallon tank with loads of plants and bog wood. I didn however notice the fry likes to nibble on the algae stuck to the walls of the tank.
isnt that good?
sounds like an effective home-grown alage cleaning crew to me!

Hi buzzmario,
The guys here are just teasing you. Guppies are well-known to breed very easily. So what you really need to do is like what they have mentioned, keep your water moderately clean, and just wait for babies. You might want to get more than 1 pair of guppies as well.
That's the mating art.. but when you want to breed specific triats, then it's a whole different story and I think you will need to consult expert (ie, not me) on this
Cheers!

Hi Justikanz,
See the problem with using the 'get new posts' function all the time
Didn't realize until you point that out to me.
