if you using diy co2, i suggest you to get two 1 way air valve too. you will be able to create enough pressure to push the co2 thru the ceramic.

I suggest you try other means to diffuse the co2.
Get a co2 ladder, or use a co2 bell, another alternative would be to feed it into a power-head / internal filter if you are using one.
Glass diffuser requires substantial amount of pressure to build up before tiny co2 bubbles would be forced out of the ceramic plates, using DIY, you may not achieve the required pressure.

Think I will get a power head to also provide better water circulation to stagnant areas in the tank.
