New to apisto caca

Hi there,

i'm intending to get a pair of apisto caca, but due to space constraints i can only get a 1 feet tank. Is that okay to house a pair of cacas ?

I am also struggling between a planted tank or a biotope. Which in your opinion is the better option?

A pair of caca is ok... But I'll suggest you get agassizii... Well is a personal liking for planted or biotope... There are many things to put into consideration on different kind of setup... Like planted tank do you wanna have a co2 and base will be soil for planting as well as certain plant in planted tank need co2... As for biotope the base you can just use sand.. And plants will be nana, moss or fern those plant does not require co2...

Everything counts in a setup bro... Do a quick and simple read up will help you alot bro...

Any reason why is agassizii a better choice?
As for the tanks, which habitat will suit the apisto better or which will it prefer in your experience?

I'm still learning too bro... As I know agassizii is not so particular about water and it breed easily... For mine Apisto I keep in a biotope setup as u read up about them, most of them live in a place with leaves the broken branches in the river with sand bed... But most of them do well in planted tank... Well others keep in planted tank as it has nice colour so it will bring out the beauty of the fish and the planted tank... As other like to keep it in their natural environment...

Personal liking bro... Do read up about them so you can have more idea how you want your tank to be...

From what I've read, Apistogramma cacatuoides are the hardiest among the apistos and also easy to breed. Apisto cacatuoides and agassizii can easily find in LFS. Like Apistoinka said, it's about your preference. If you want to have a pair of apisto in 1 feet tank, you'll need to be consistent in water change. Common dieases like fungus or parasitic can easily happen in a small tank. You need to constantly check the quality of the water. Provide at least a cave for the female and plant the tank well with a lot of hiding place. All the best!

I would suggest to get slender bodies Apistogramma for usual 1ft tank.
Unless you getting a cube tank then a broad bodies ones will be nice.
It is hard for them to swim in a 1ft tank during the usual spawning ritual of chasing around.
This is what i think.

I would suggest you stick to Cacatuoides for their ability to spawn more readily as compared to the other apistos. This is one event most apisto keeper look forward to see and experience. And replacements if there should be death of either sex can be found easily in the LFS.

If you can keep only 1 ft tank, I dont think you should keep a pair of Apisto at all. Once they breed, you'll definitely need at least 2ft to house the fries.

I agree with apisto31, i have a pair of apisto caca in 1ft tank, they spawn 6 times within half a yr

but only 3 batches hatched successfully. I set up another 1ft to house the fries then but now they grow bigger and i am setting up another 2ft to house the grown up.
