    Geoffrey,

you never see the exhibit they put up during CNY, where they had a walled arrangement of 3x4 2 ft tanks, featuring fish/aquatic life somehow connected to the Chinese horoscope. Thus you have TIGER barbs, RABBIT fish (a marine fish), COWfish, sea MOUSE, sea MONKEY, Eel (SNAKE), sea HORSE etc...... all looking like they are gonna kick the bucket anytime..... and they share the tank with a few oversized models of Gold Taels...... you can see one example on click.

this one the curator should be fed to his sharks.

aizaspurz, forgive me for stealing your thread to express my disappointment with our Underwater World. After so many years, nothing much have improved. All they had for FW aquarium are just that 2 tanks of Harlequins and Tiger Barbs.

Being in the epicentre of SEA in which we are endowed with a great diversity of aquatic flora and fauna, not much effort were made to leverage on this endowment.

it is not that i am a pro. but, i feel tired when I see stupid questions posted here such as can OHF be used with planted? can put LH in planted tank? I also get sick hearing comments such as wah planted use a lot of light!
these newbie may not be the one i hate. those i hate are those who see others have planted tank and set up their own tank thinking it is soo easy. then, got problem. tank not nice. i only like those who setup planted tanks bcos they appreciate nature not bcos it is nice.

how do u know tat the threadstarter is the type of person u dun like? how sure r u? frm wat i see, u r just generalising. sure, the question mayn't b the most intelligent but we all have to start frm somewhere and your reply certainly hasnt been the most intelligent either.

in the mean time, i'm sure the forumers are more interested in the thread topic than this senseless crossfire. so let's just keep our personal attacks out of the equation.....

Hi I am a newbie myself had been reading a lot of posting from AQ, AR and AquaRealms. Have learn a lot about planted tank in particular from all you expert out there.

I am glad that these seniors are willing to help us newbie by answering our stupid question.

I have a suggestion to all newbie out there to include the word "Newbie" in the subject heading so that forumer not interested in answering can avoid such thread. If not, AQ can have a area for newbie to ask questions.

I believe all the newbie(s) are not setting up a planted tank just because it is nice (as the investments are not cheap which we have consider to prepare).

I guess by asking question such as lighting, CO2, base fert, etc. We are trying to understand the nature eco-system fitting into a tank either of the size of 2,3,4,5 or 6 feet.

Hope that I have not offended anyone.

Anarchy, you have to give everyone a chance. Those questions you illustrated are fairly sensible questions, don't you think so?

Now, take that one, OHF ok for planted? Yes and no, it depends but preferably not. The question solicits not a simple answer of yes or no but the rationale behind each decision and its ramification. I doubt you will slake the thirst for knowledge of the person asking it by simply saying a no or yes.

Did you attend the talk, many months back, kindly conducted by AQ's moderators at Gan's place? Noticed the number of boys attending it? They are just young boys and another young boy may be asking those questions. He may not have the luxury of his folks bringing him to the library or explaining things to him. He may be in it all on his own, desperately hoping for help.

"i only like those who setup planted tanks bcos they appreciate nature not bcos it is nice." is not a fair statement to make either. Things evolve, some hobbyists started this hobby for the love of nature but there are others that are beginning to understand and love nature after going into it, realising the difficulties and relationship.

Geoffery, you are right. Maybe I would just present my case as an example. At first, I was just wanting to have a "fish tank" to decorate my living room. In the process of setting up and keeping my simple tank with a few tetras, I came to know about Nature Aquarium of Amano and got interested. I started to plant and did asked some "stupid" questions in AQ forum.[]

But now I can say that I have learnt a lot from many experts here in this forum who are very helpful and knowledgable. I also start to know about nature and appreciate the beauty of nature surrounding me. Whenever I see river, mountain, trees and etc, I automatically think about their ecosystem.

Though far from being an expert, I can now help my friends to solve some of their problems in aquatic plants and share the joy of their new set up.

Thanks to all the helpful guys here.

Some of them are not allowed to use the computer too much during schooling semesters, and can't spend enough time to research about this fairly complex and intriguing hobby.

    a wise naturalist once wrote:

"A man can sit for hours before an aquarium and stare into it as into the flames of an open fire or the rushing waters of a torrent. All conscious thought is happily lost in this state of apparent vacancy, and yet, in those hours of idleness, one learns essential truths about the macrocosm and the microcosm."

Then, that will be their experience. Everyone here is travelling along different route in life. No two tanks are the same.

I have very selfish reasons to help everyone and anyone. first to boost the volume of business so the LFS stays in business, next to wean people off those LH!!

Just wanna add on that like it or not, there will always be 'stupid questions' and trust me its very subjective, i hope we all learn to be a little patient so that beginners like me can get a chance to have good planted tanks set up in our home!

    Bro, don't be disheartened!!
Lets move on to other constructive things, can tell us more about your tank?

    This thread should be changed to "Matured forumers - is this how they talk?quot;

Anyway, I think this thread has gone way way off topic. Shall we stick to the original topic please? For more comments about "Noobs" and "Stupid questions", please start new thread.

    Thanks.

    Hello everyone....

Thanx to you guys who show support to n00bs like me. Very much appreciated.

And as highlighted by some who replied to my queries earlier, I've up-rooted the 'leggy' glosso last night and re-planted them.

I followed the advice to keep them 'low' so that they will grow sprawling on the floor. Hopefully, they will grow as how runners are supposed to. Here's the pic after the uprooting:

alamak you don't have to uproot them, just cut of between the nodes, leave 2 leaves above the gravel, the trim off ones just plant DEEPLY into the gravel (I hope you have pincers) until just the top leaves is showing.
