I used to use comb too, and trim them down to an inch high. my new insight is there is no need to comb (because they will stand up straight once the lights come on and the leaves fill with gases) and trimming will only cause the density at the bottom to become very high (old leaves plus new leaves) so what I now do is periodic crew-cut. Crew-cut meaning trim all the way down to the gravel, just before hitting the growing "rosette" and runners.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.
