Mine has this also and I thought they may be spores. Would be good to have one of the more senior members to confirm or comment.

doesn't look like eggs or algae. reckon it would be rational to snip the particular leaf off to prevent spread. looks nasty.....
Already done that and it is in my quarantine tank just in case. Curious what it will develop into.
Anyway I don't think Java fern propagate by spores right? They grow daughter plant under the leafs.
Its the spore case from the fern.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and he will drink beer while getting sunburnt.
Should be spores..Some land plants and spores have them too, so it should be the same case for the aquatic java fern.
Never notice it on the Java fern before. So do these spores just stay on the leaf till it decided to grow into daughter plant? My tank Java ferns are full of daughter plants and long roots hanging off the leafs. The tank is looking wilder everday.
Ok, without getting too technical, daughter plants don't come from these spores. The spores produce another fern which then gives rise to daughter plants. Basically, you're going to get daughter plants pretty soon..
I recently planted java fern, so still waiting to see new daughter plants. How long did yours take to produce daughter plants?
I chop it off already.. but I still have a lot of daughter plants already growing in the tank.
Mine took less than 1 month since I bought it. I read before that daughter plants grow when the leaf is old and dying soon. Mine does looks old when I get it.
If yous is all young leafs, it will take some time. With CO2 and EI dosing, the Java fern are growing daughter plants like no body business and the roots gets long very fast. Now my Java ferns look like those old trees with vines flowing down.
