    Re: Newly Setup Shrimp Tank

Bro what is your water parameter? Cause sulawesi need a different water parameter from other range of shrimp.

U can however try to acclamitize which i see a cherry or sakura in there to sulawesi parameter if u add other shrimp they will eventually stress fade colour and die off.

Anyway it is a very nice setup.

It a nice setup , what kind of special care do we need to take of Sulawesi Shrimp.
I hear from my fren , is hard to keep them.

Can you advise what condition do you use.

I see well hope they do live well in there anyway they will not be able to show the best of their colour.

    Sulawesi setup

ph7.5-8 (take time for coral chip to raise the ph to 7.5 or more. it took me 2 weeks+ to get it from 7 -> 7.6)
    Temp 28-30
Gh 7-10 (can be attain when u have coral chip should raise to about 5 to 6)
Kh 5-8 (same as above coral chip will help to raise it)

    that is the basic parameter

    Re: Newly Setup Shrimp Tank

From some of the blogs i read in Sulawesi shrimps...
It seems like there are some species that are difficult to breed them...

One of them should be Harlequin Shrimp

I guess water parameter needs to be just nice for them...
Read somewhere that they can even survive in PH at about 7.0 but definitely not below that...

    Temperature maybe another factor...
Sulawesi shrimp live in tropical waters... hence should be about 28 degree..

    Re: Newly Setup Shrimp Tank

    Avex,

    Thanks for the advise...

Currently I have take some PH measurements for the pass few days and the PH level has been pretty constant at about 7.8 - 8.0
The temperature is also pretty constant at about 28 degrees

As for the GH and KH, i did not purchase the kit for the measurement.
Hence I don't really know the measurement for that...

What i see in your setup , why you did not use bubbles. From what i know bubbles is very good for shrimps.
Correct me if i am wrong.

    Re: Newly Setup Shrimp Tank

My hang filter actually generates bubbles inside...
So the water flowing out should be rich in air...

I use neutral gravel mainly black quantz gravel and pink quantz gravel for beautify. I also add some moss. I want to use gravel instead of soil is because most shrimp soil have a ph buffer. So that i do not get a swing of ph I add coral chips into my pre-filter. What i did was i practising overfilteration system thot by pros breeders for crs. So i adopt the same method my external canister is pure media. Than i link it to a pre-filter setup with half media half coral chip. Also i put in rock and stone. I'm try to download my my pic to share for comment also but my card reader is not working properly so i will try to get the picture unload to share my setup also to seek comment to further improve it.

Yes as u mention earlier harlequin is one of the hardest to breed in captivity according to many website. Infact if u purchase harlequin in captivity they might only have 3 mth lifespan so either u get them to breed or they might live longer but do not breed at all. I've orchid which is berry i think the shrimplet is release i m trying to spot them in the tank but due to the colouration it is very hard to look for them now.

    Re: Newly Setup Shrimp Tank

I still wanting to get more sulawesi...

Maybe i should get those that is easier to breed instead of those that are more difficult...

What do you reckon is the lifespan of sulawesi?
    1 year?

I will be very interested to look at your setup
    Awaiting for your photos

I read in a few forum about them

1)Harlequin is the hardest among all the shrimp extremely sensitive pc.
2)Gold Flakes is the 2nd hardest in the tank i heard it is terroritry spieces. I read somewhere that u cannot have too many in a tank.
